For the past weeks, our team has been monitoring bathrooms across campus. These bathrooms have been located in Powell Library, Math Science Building, Kerkhoff Hall, and Haines Hall. By monitoring, we are observing how many people are coming into the bathroom to use the sinks at certain times such as, 1:50-2:05 PM, and looking at which faucets need to be implemented with aerators immediately due to frequency of bathroom users. We are looking to have some return on the investments to calculate.
So far, we have completed monitoring two bathrooms, which are located in Haines 136 (women’s) and Haines A85 (men’s). The times that we monitored were from 9:50 AM – 10:05 AM, 11:50 AM – 12:05 PM, 1:50 PM – 2:05 PM, and 3:50 PM – 4:05 PM. For Haines 136 (women’s) at9:50 AM – 10:05 AM there were 27 women, at 11:50 AM – 12:05 PM there were 29 women, at 1:50 PM – 2:05 PM there were 26 women, and at3:50 PM – 4:05 PM there were 24 women who entered the bathroom to use the sinks. For Haines A85 (men’s) at 9:50 AM – 10:05 AM there were 5 men, at 11:50 AM – 12:05 PM there were 3 men, at 1:50 PM – 2:05 PM there were 22 men, and at 3:50 PM – 4:05 PM there were 6 men who entered the bathroom to use the sinks. The data from the women’s bathroom in Haines 136 looked more consistent since there were around 24 to 29 women using the bathroom sinks at each time period, however for the men’s bathroom, the data ranged from 3 to 22 men using the bathroom sinks.
For the coming weeks, we are looking to come together to finish our final presentation poster and final report as well as continuously keeping in touch with our stakeholders, Nurit Katz and Derek Gomez. For ninth week, we will be practicing our final research presentation so that we will be prepared for the Monday of 10th week.
