By Ryan Taylor- Green Labs
This was a productive week for our Green Labs team. We finalized our interview questions for both the janitorial staff and the researchers in the Biomedical Science Research Building. The interview questions were sent off in the hopes of getting a better perspective from the people creating the waste and the people collecting it. When we get the interview responses in the next week, we hope that we can use the insight provided to better our laboratory recycling project. Additionally, we had our recycling bins finally placed throughout the labs allowing us to proceed with the next phase of our implementation process.
This week our team also had the pleasure of having a table at the Earth Day Fair. It was great answering the questions of fellow peers, a large portion of whom had worked in labs, and expressed a need for in a lab recycling program.
Our next step for our team is to assess the effectiveness of our recycling bins. This will require us to do another series of waste audits, and compare the results to our prior waste audits which were done before the recycling bins were placed. The hope is that the recycling bins proved effective at reducing the overall amount of recyclable material placed in the garbage.
