Everyone’s favorite quarter is here! It is Spring! And here at UCLA, the weather is warming up and people are headed out to Sunset Recreation Friday’s and Santa Monica. Coachella is right around the corner, Stagecoach shortly follows, and UCLA takes over Vegas Memorial Day Weekend. It is clear that everyone’s social lives here at school are booked with exciting activities, but that does not mean that us Bruins are not hard at work.
As the weather warms and activity brews, our Hospital Sustainability Team is rapidly warming up to what is seeming to become a very busy quarter. With our education module well on its way, we are looking forward to tackling the next big action item on our list, the Second Annual Earth Day Fair at the Ronald Reagan Medical Center. We have been reaching out and compiling a list of student groups that will table at the Fair, and are organizing a cappella groups for entertainment. A theme for the event is still to be determined and we are working to ensure that our event receives green certification.
At the end of this past quarter, we were excited to start the spring knowing that we would have so many action items to tackle. David and Steven recently met with Andre Roudenko and relayed the fantastic news that our project had been approved! We are ready to start collecting measures on the amount of paper towel waste generated in the hospital bathrooms. The next step is to purchase a scale so that we can weigh the waste from one collection to the next. We hope to start collecting our data this coming week! Moving forward, we are excited for this quarter, and after the slow and rough start last quarter, we are warming up to the idea that we actually have several approved projects to be completed this quarter.
