This week we are preparing for the next round of interviews of professors involved in the Grand Challenge! At this week’s meeting we reviewed our interview questions that we used last quarter and chose to add some questions focusing on undergraduate research. We then created a Google document to schedule professors for Week 3 and Week 4 interviews, and then emailed the Google document to the professors we weren’t able to interview last quarter. We’re hoping for quick responses from the remaining professors to be able to finish interviews within the next couple weeks. We then plan to move on to compiling the information we’ve gathered into a website to educate the public about the Grand Challenge and relevant research being done by professors at UCLA. We’ve started to edit the information from interviews into a format that will be easily transferrable and readable on a website. We can’t wait for all of our hard work this past quarter to be seen!
We’ve also started to plan for the UCLA Earth Day Fair on April 24th. We’re excited to host a table as an Action Research Team representing the Grand Challenge. It’s exciting to raise awareness about the Grand Challenge and how students can be involved with this goal. Hopefully you get a chance to visit our booth!
Lastly, we want to encourage you to learn more about the Grand Challenge by attending “Thriving in a Hotter L.A.: Turning Los Angeles into a Global Model for Urban Sustainability” on April 22, 2014 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in De Neve Plaza Room A/B. A panel of UCLA experts will be there to introduce the Grand Challenge initiative and it’s goal for 100% sustainability in Los Angeles by 2050. Throughout this quarter we hope to continue to learn more about sustainability and how UCLA and the greater city of Los Angeles can adapt to a changing climate.
